So, you play Hobbo when you come home? Or have a Zwinky environment that needs some additional furniture or music? Or maybe you play online and need some extra points for your Nexon games. Well, there are prepaid cards for those players too. And of course if you didn’t understand those first sentences, perhaps your kid will.
GMG Entertainment is a publisher of prepaid cards for online gaming and entertainment companies, and has just announced a new range of prepaid cards to be sold exclusively at Toys “R” Us. The cards are individually branded with titles from GMG partners, including AdvertureQuest, Cartoon Doll Emporium, Gala-Net, Stardoll, WildTangent and Zwinky, as well as a new partner, WeeWorld.
Target has added a whole section on their website devoted to these products and while they will not release sales figures, things are going incredibly well for them. This is just one more product that is available to consumers in a prepaid format, adding to the prepaid gift, phone and wireless products. You can also find these cards at Best Buy and similar retailers.
NCsoft offers similar products which for their Exteel or Tabula Rasa games which are sold at Best Buy and Target. This process of buying additional content for a game really isn’t new and could date back to bubble gum trading cards of the 30’s and 40’s. As the games have evolved, so have the trading cards.
If purchased at a store as a gift, the redemption process is similar to other online products. The new users simply enters the code into the consul or website, everything validated then the value is added to the players account. The packaging can then be tossed.
These cards are a good deal for the retailer too. They take up little space and the displays are packed with other products like prepaid wireless top off cards, or iTunes prepaid cards. The retailer doesn’t pay for the inventory until it is activated and because the products are not live on the floor, there isn’t a theft risk.
If you find out that your son or daughter is playing a specific game that uses these products, it might not hurt to head down to Target or seach the net for the game title. You just might find that there is a prepaid card that will be available.
